Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor shared intake area
The NSW Department of Education has created a shared intake area called the Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor to cater to population growth in South West Sydney. A map of the shared intake area will be available on the School Finder website from Friday 21 October 2022.
The shared intake area combines the former intake areas of Denham Court, Leppington and Edmondson Park public schools. This innovative approach will ensure all local students continue to have a place at a local public school.
A shared intake area is needed to cater for students in the Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor
The shared intake area was developed because:
- Denham Court Public School is nearing capacity
- Edmondson Park Public School will open on Day 1 Term 1 2023, with 600 places for Kindergarten to Year 6 students.
Edmondson Park Public School will also have 400 more places when the project is finished in early 2023. These additional 1,000 places are being shared across the new intake area.
This is a temporary arrangement designed to provide equitable access to education for all Kindergarten to Year 6 students living in the local area.
Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor enrolment panel
A new Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor enrolment panel has been created to manage new enrolments in the shared intake area.
The panel’s guiding principle is making enrolment decisions that aim to keep families together. The panel will preference enrolment applications where there is a sibling in attendance at a school.
The panel is comprised of the Principals (or their delegates), P&C members and school staff from Denham Court, Leppington and Edmondson Park public schools.
Enrolment applications will be managed by the panel following the Local enrolment procedures for the Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor.
Enrolment panel determination procedure
The enrolment panel will determine applications considering the permanent accommodation capacities of each school in the new intake area. The panel will meet and make decisions in line with the local enrolment procedures.
As Denham Court Public School is nearing capacity, the panel will only allocate new students to this school if they are a sibling of students enrolled at the school in 2023. Children living very close to the school will also be considered.
Leppington and Edmondson Park public schools can accommodate students living in Denham Court and Edmondson Park in 2023.
Denham Court and Leppington Public School enrolled students
If your child is enrolled in Denham Court or Leppington public schools, they do not need to change schools. If you are considering enrolling a sibling in the same school in 2023, they will be accepted.
Enrolment applications for Edmondson Park Public School
Construction of the new Edmondson Park Public School is nearing completion and will be open for Day 1 Term 1 2023. Enrolment applications for Edmondson Park Public School are now open on School Finder.
If you have already submitted an enrolment application for Edmondson Park Public School using the out-of-area application form for Leppington Public School, you do not need to submit a new application.
Construction will continue in early 2023 at the new school to provide 1,000 student places.
How to make an enrolment application
Visit School Finder for more information about how to make an enrolment application for a school in the Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor.
Update on existing enrolment applications
The Department of Education thanks parents and carers for their patience while this new policy and its procedures were finalised. All enrolment applications are now being processed and you will be contacted soon with a formal offer from your allocated school.
Appealing the panel’s enrolment decision
The panel must consider the permanent accommodation capacities of each school when determining enrolment applications. It will not always be possible to enrol your child at your preferred school location.
Parents and carers who do not agree with the panel's enrolment decision can submit an appeal to determine whether the stated criteria have been applied equitably.
Appeals against a decision made by the panel should be made in writing to the Principal of the school they are seeking to enrol their child at, within 10 business days.
The Principals of Denham Court Public School, Edmondson Park Public School and Leppington Public School will meet to consider the appeal and make a joint determination. The outcome will be advised in writing.
If the matter is not resolved at the school level, the final level of appeal is to the Director Educational Leadership, Glenfield Principals Network.
Leppington Public School upgrade
The NSW 2022-23 Budget announced funding to deliver an upgrade at Leppington Public School. The project will provide additional permanent teaching spaces and core facilities, which may include a hall, library, administration and play space. Planning is underway and more information will be shared with the community as details are available.
Denham Court Public School has a fixed capacity
Denham Court Public School has a planning approval condition from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment. This condition caps the number of students and staff that can be onsite to 1,000 people. There is no opportunity for the cap to be increased. The cap is in place for health and safety reasons, due to the gas main lines that are located near the school.
NSW Department of Education’s enrolment policy
The enrolment of students in this new shared intake area is consistent with the NSW Department of Education’s enrolment policy, which states children are entitled to be enrolled in their local government school if their home is located in its designated intake area and if the child is eligible to attend the school.
The enrolment policy also considers the capacity of a school to provide permanent accommodation for the student. If a school does not have the capacity to enrol a student, they cannot be accepted.
Outside of hours school hours care
All three schools in the shared intake area have outside of hours school care. Once your child has been placed in a school, please contact the operator of the before and after school care service to book your place.
The new preschool in Edmondson Park will open in early 2023
Edmondson Park Public School will open for students on Day 1 Term 1 2023. The preschool will not be operational on Day 1 Term 1 2023 and is planned to open in early 2023, weather permitting. The community will be updated when the preschool is nearing completion.
Liverpool City Council is managing enrolment applications and the operation of the preschool. Please contact the Council to make an enrolment application.
