Wollumbin High School
Wollumbin High School, established in 1995, is a small comprehensive school on the far north coast of NSW. Quality teaching and learning is characteristic of the school's culture and affirmed by our motto 'Together We Learn'. Our students are informed, active learners who embrace new opportunities and contribute positively to their communities as confident citizens. The highly professional staff brings a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to the learning of students. Our HSC students have gained results that placed them in the top two HSC achievement bands in a range of courses, have been included in the NESA honour list and have had practical work selected for exhibition. Close links to universities have been established with students gaining early entry to university studies. School-based traineeships have secured employment for our students along with HSC and industry accreditation. The school is known in the community for providing a safe and supportive learning environment, the provision of a broad curriculum supported by technology, a strong uniform code and an effective welfare system underpinned by the values of respect, responsibility, relationships and resilience. Strategies such as specific class placement focusing on challenging learning opportunities and support for students with specific learning needs provides all students with the opportunity to achieve personal best. Aboriginal students negotiate personal learning plans with parents and teachers, are strongly represented in leadership and all levels of achievement within the school. We work closely with our partner primary schools sharing data, building continuums of learning, providing collaborative professional learning opportunities for staff and implementing a comprehensive transition to high school program. Assessment and reporting is built around explicit syllabus outcomes where rubrics and constructive feedback assists the achievement of quality student learning outcomes. Our school’s KIN / House Program supports Mixed groups of Years 7/8/9 and Years 10/11/12, with many opportunities for older students to mentor and have opportunities leading peers. Teachers of the group are interested and passionate about the colour house activities, and will have industry connections. The KIN /HouseProgram will include a focus on Study skills, life skills, community projects and passion projects. During KIN, programs will be run for students who have shown high potential in their chosen area, including Dance, Photography, and Rugby League Development. Our Dedicated Deadlies Kin fostering Aboriginal students’ sense of identity and culture while exploring themselves and their culture through the lens of their chosen house. The P and C is an active group who work closely with the school to support all students. At Wollumbin High School we believe in high expectations, educational excellence and student success.
