As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the 2025-26 Budget is delivering $2.1 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.

The NSW government is planning an upgrade to Thornton Public School to accommodate the future needs of the growing communities in the Thornton and Chisholm area.

The upgrade will increase the capacity of the school to 897 students.

removal of existing buildings (Buildings D, G and F).

Progress summary

Planning is currently underway for the project. An initial master plan which is a basic layout of the proposed upgrades has been completed. The master plan has been developed by considering demographic trends, the educational requirements of the school and the condition of existing buildings.
A design team of architects, planners and design professionals are also currently being appointed to the project.

Next steps

Following the appointment of a design team, the master plan will be validated before work will commence on the concept design.
A Project Reference Group (PRG) will also be established as an advisory group and involve key stakeholders as local educational experts, architects, planners and design professionals in order to ensure designs are fit for purpose.
We will continue to share information with the community as it becomes available.
