As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild essential services, the 2023-24 Budget is delivering a record $3.6 billion for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney. This targeted investment in growing communities will ensure working families get access to a world class public education.

Planning is underway for the new high school for Gledswood Hills and Gregory Hills to cater for the growing population. The permanent high school is due to open Day 1, Term 1 2027, subject to planning approvals.

In the short term, a purpose-built temporary high school has opened on Day 1 Term 1 2025 to cater for Year 7 and Year 8 students. It is located at the corner of Long Reef Circuit, alongside Gregory Hills Public School.

The benefits

The benefits - permanent high school:

modern classrooms and specialist support classrooms for up to 1,000 students
a muti-purpose hall for sports and performance, sports and recreation facilities
a covered outdoor learning area (COLA), a library, canteen and administration facilities.

The benefits - temporary high school:

general classrooms for up to 300 students
specialist classrooms for science, wood and metal workshops, home science, music and visual arts
a library and administration facilities
dedicated toilets and change rooms.

Frequently asked questions

Who will be able to attend the new high school?

Will students still be able to enrol in their existing in-catchment schools in 2025?

Yes. Students living in the new high school intake area who currently have Oran Park High School or Mount Annan High School as their local in-area school will be able to attend those schools in 2025. Families will now have the added local option for Year 7, 2025 enrolment in the new high school for Gregory Hills and Gledswood Hills. New enrolment boundaries will be in place from day 1, term 3 2024 and students who live in the new high school’s catchment area wishing to enrol in Year 7, 2025 will enrol at the new school, as their in-area school.

Why is a temporary high school being opened earlier, ahead of the expected completion of the permanent school for Day 1, Term 1 2027?

Has opening a temporary high school whilst a permanent school has been built been done elsewhere?

Will both Gregory Hills Public School and the new temporary high school have access to play space?
