A project to upgrade Newington Public School is now in planning. This will accommodate future growth in the Sydney Olympic Park area and provide access to permanent facilities. This is in addition to upgrades in progress at Wentworth Point Public School, upgrades in planning for a new primary school and public preschool in the Carter Street precinct and the recently opened Wentworth Point High School.

It is anticipated that the upgrades will be completed in late 2027 and will include:

a new permanent teaching building with new classrooms
new shared indoor common areas, multipurpose spaces and student amenities
removal of demountable classrooms
landscaping works.

Progress summary

The department has been working closely with the Newington Public School leadership team to develop early designs for the project to ensure the upgrade will meet the needs of the school community.
A Project Reference Group (PRG) has been established for the project and will includes representatives from the Department of Education, the Principal, the Director Educational Leadership, a representative of the P&C of Newington Public School, planners, and design professionals.
The role of the PRG in the planning phase is to make recommendations and provide key information from an operational, educational and logistics perspective, to ensure the needs of the school can best be met within the scope of the project.
