As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the NSW Budget is delivering $2.3 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.

Following careful planning work and exploration of options for the future of Maitland Grossmann High School, we are pleased to announce a plan to build a brand-new school on a new site.

The new school will expand the school’s capacity and deliver modern, purpose-built facilities for up to 1,500 students, ensuring the school is equipped to meet the needs of a growing community while continuing its proud legacy of public education.

With the new school site to open in 2030, Maitland Grossmann High School will continue operating on its current site until then to ensure continuity of learning for students.

Further details, including where the new school will be located, will be shared with the community later this year as the project progresses.

We will work closely with the school and the broader community to support a smooth transition and ensure that the Maitland Grossmann High School legacy and history are reflected in the new school.

Why is the school moving?

An upgrade to the current site for Maitland Grossmann High School was considered as part of this process. However, site constraints, including its size and layout mean it cannot accommodate the growing demand in the community.

Relocating the school aims to minimise disruption to teaching and learning during construction, while providing modern facilities that meet the evolving needs of the growing community by increasing the capacity of Maitland Grossmann High School to accommodate up to 1,500 students.

We deeply value the rich history of the school and its strong alumni community across Maitland. We are committed to working closely with the school community to identify and honour the important traditions and heritage of the school and current site, ensuring these meaningful elements are thoughtfully incorporated into new school facilities.

Will the new school facilities provide the same educational opportunities as the current school?

Current school facilities and curriculum structure, such as the vocational education and training (VET) kitchen, will be considered as part of the new school design. The project team will work with school leadership to incorporate the appropriate facility requirements to ensure they meet the needs of the school community.

What will the school intake area be and will students at Maitland Grossmann High School automatically be enrolled in the new high school?

All students enrolled at Maitland Grossmann High School at the time of the transition will continue to be enrolled.

Intake areas (sometimes known as the school catchment) are based on up-to-date enrolment figures, travel options, and public transport routes. The intake area will be confirmed closer to the school opening and shared with the community.
