New tender pipeline showcases upcoming school infrastructure opportunities
Release date: 18 February 2025
The NSW Government is making it easier for the NSW construction industry to assess and bid for work on the huge pipeline of new and upgraded schools in the coming years with the launch today of a new online resource for tenders for major projects across the state.
Deputy Premier and Education Minister Prue Car today announced the School Infrastructure Major Projects Tender Pipeline at the Property Council of Australia’s Western Sydney Outlook Breakfast.
The website will enable contractors to view the number, specifications and location of tender opportunities so that they can better plan potential work with the NSW Government.
It is part of a wider commitment by the Minns Government to work collaboratively with the construction sector to deliver its ambitious plan to deliver 100 new public preschools and deliver scores of new and upgraded schools.
Last year the NSW Government delivered a pattern book to provide detailed guidance to industry on consistent, repeatable designs for new schools and preschools builds, which will enable increased use of Modern Methods of Construction.
The Department of Education anticipates releasing approximately $2.4 billion worth of tenders to the market this financial year, with around $800 million of tenders to be released between now and 30 June.
A pipeline of upcoming projects with tenders encompassing new build schools, school upgrades, preschools and flood recovery projects will be uploaded to the website in the next week.
Tenders for more than 100 projects have already been released this financial year. Upcoming tender opportunities will be issued with requirements from a broad range of suppliers. Some major capital works will be tendered in bundles to boost efficiency.
Publishing the information online is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to broaden its
engagement with industry and keep partners updated and informed about the pipeline of projects.
The new resource will provide information to contractors to support the delivery of schools in growing communities.
Projects due to go to tender this financial year include:
- Liverpool High School redevelopment
- Kogarah Public School upgrade
- Melrose Park Public School redevelopment and new public preschool
- Ulladulla Public School upgrade
- Ulladulla High School upgrade
- Milton Public School upgrade
- Randwick High School upgrade
- Lennox Head Public School redevelopment
- Orange Grove Public School upgrade
On the first day of school this year, the NSW Government opened five new permanent schools and two fast-tracked temporary schools to meet the needs of families in fast-growing areas.
These included:
- Melonba Public School: Delivered six months early
- Melonba High School: Students moved into permanent facilities this year after the high school was fast-tracked into temporary facilities at the start of 2024
- Box Hill Public School: New temporary school built in record time, just seven months after the NSW Government committed to build a new permanent public school and high school for the suburb by 2028.
- Gledswood Hills High School: New temporary high school fast-tracked to open this year while we build the new permanent high school due to open Day 1, Term 1, 2027.
This is part of the NSW Government’s record $8.9 billion investment to deliver new and upgraded schools across the state, including $3.6 billion for Western Sydney and $1.4 billion for regional communities.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:
“The NSW Government has a pipeline of work to rebuild public education in NSW after years of failure by the former Liberal and National government. Central to that is the pressing need to build schools in communities where there were no public schools.
“We have an ambitious program to build 100 public preschools – the largest investment in the history of the state – and we want to work closely with the construction industry to ensure the best quality builds for our youngest learners.
“Working closely with suppliers through the tender process will ensure we can work together to deliver critical new schools and upgrades for families across the state.”
