Hoops upgrade a slam dunk at Cambridge Gardens Public School

Release date: 08 August 2024

Cambridge Gardens Public School students are having a ball on their new basketball court as the first stages of their school upgrade complete, part of an election commitment made good by NSW Labor Government.

The Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car, and Member for Penrith Karen McKeown joined students at Cambridge Gardens Public School to cut the ribbon on the school’s newly completed basketball court.

The upgrade is the first part of the NSW Government’s election commitment to resurface the school’s basketball court to improve student safety while playing sport.

Students celebrated the exciting milestone with a friendly game of hoops alongside school principal Adam Wynn in their best green and gold last Friday, supporting our Olympians on National Green and Gold Day.

The second part of the school upgrade also includes the construction of new student restroom facilities, with work starting during the recent school holidays and expected to be finished before the end of the year.

The Department of Education will provide regular updates to the school community as work progresses.

The upgrade at Cambridge Gardens Public School forms part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, with the 2024-25 Budget delivering record education funding including $3.6 billion for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:

"The newly resurfaced basketball court demonstrates our commitment to providing safe, high-quality facilities for our students.

“Seeing projects like this one realised shows our determination to provide every child with the opportunity to learn, play, and grow in the best possible environment.

“There is more to come for students, as the final stages of the Cambridge Gardens Public School upgrade continues this term with works on the new amenities building already underway.”

Member for Penrith Karen McKeown said:

“I am proud to be part of a government that prioritises education and is committed to delivering facilities and a learning environment that inspires and supports our students.

“It is so rewarding to see school infrastructure being delivered for students and families in fast-growing areas like Penrith.”

Cambridge Gardens Public School Principal Adam Wynn said:

“Our students have been looking forward to the completion of the resurfaced basketball court this term, which has already been a hit amongst our students at lunch time.

“This upgrade makes our fantastic school an even better place to come and learn, and we look forward to seeing progress on our new amenities building.

“We are grateful for the government's support and investment in our school, ensuring that our students have access to excellent facilities that promote learning and growth.
