New multi-sports facility for Hastings Secondary College is officially open

The new shared use multi-sports facility, which includes sports courts, gymnastic facilities, weights rooms, PCYC office, multipurpose rooms, youth hub and staff kitchen facilities, will also enhance youth outcomes in the local area.
The opening of the facility is the latest milestone in the multi-million upgrade for the Hastings Secondary College community, which the Minns Labor Government is delivering in stages after the project was delayed under the former Liberal National Government, who had slated it for completion in 2022.
The upgrade at the Westport Campus was completed in 2023, and the remaining project works at the Port Macquarie Campus are progressing in stages.
The Port Macquarie Campus upgrade includes the delivery of 14 new or upgraded classrooms, as well as 3 supported learning areas, a redeveloped school entry, 3 new lifts to improve accessibility, a new Creative and Performing Arts building and new Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) facilities.
The new Creative and Performing Arts building opened on Day 1, Term 1, 2024, along with the new school entrance. Works to deliver new and refurbished facilities and support classrooms are ongoing.Students will have exclusive use of the new multi-sport facility during school hours. The PCYC will operate it outside of school hours, or as otherwise agreed with the school, strengthening ties between the school the wider community.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:
“This fantastic sporting facility is just the latest milestone in a multi-million-dollar upgrade the NSW Government is delivering for Hastings Secondary College, and I cannot wait to see the students making the most of the opportunities it opens up for improving their fitness and sports skills.
“The Minns Labor Government is not just building better schools, we are building better communities. This facility and the school upgrade is just one example of that.
“The opening of this new shared sports facility follows the opening of the school’s new Creative and Performing Arts building in Term 1, while work is ongoing to deliver further upgrades for the school, including new and refurbished classrooms.
“We are getting on with the job of delivering the much-needed upgrades for this school after the project was delayed under the former Liberal National Government who promised it would be completed by 2022.”

“The completion of this shared sports facility marks a significant milestone for the school and the Port Macquarie community. Through a partnership between Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) and the NSW Government, we are able to offer this community new sports courts, gymnastics and gym facilities, multipurpose rooms, and a youth hub.
“Projects like this are a valuable asset that will benefit the local community for generations, and I am thrilled to see it officially open.”
