Western Sydney schools raise the roof

Release date: 15 November 2023

Dozens of schools across Western Sydney have had roof replacements as School Infrastructure NSW modernises public school assets across the region.

As the year closes, almost 150 roof replacements have been undertaken in more than 40 schools across Western Sydney.

Michael Beckwith, AM Director Western Sydney, said the school buildings have all had new Colorbond metal roofing installed.

“The new roofs improve the appearance of the buildings and also ensure against water leaks, which damages internal roof components and impacts classroom learning,” Mr Beckwith said.

“We ensure the installation of new roofs are done on weekends and school holidays to minimise disruption to learning.”

Toongabbie East Public School and Lethbridge Park Public School are among the schools that received a roof replacement this year.

“At Toongabbie East Public School, the roof was replaced at the building that houses the main toilet, the before and after school care block and the school canteen building,” Mr Beckwith said.

“The new roofs were also installed at Lethbridge Park Public School on Buildings B and F, which houses classrooms and toilets.

“The majority of the work was undertaken during spring school holidays ensuring minimal disruption to learning.

“Roof replacements also benefit the Western Sydney region by employing local tradies and supporting local businesses.”
