On Monday, Northern Beaches Secondary College (NBSC) Manly Campus marked the official opening of their new multi-purpose hall with local Elders holding a smoking ceremony for the school community.

New multi-purpose hall delivered by School Infrastructure NSW

Students at the Manly Campus have given the new multipurpose hall top marks, thrilled to have a dedicated place to play basketball, netball, volleyball and have PE lessons.

Ethan Yim (Year 8) is certainly impressed, saying: ”The new gymnasium facility is a wonderful addition to our flourishing school community. It is well-equipped with modern facilities such as sparkling bathrooms and our much-anticipated indoor basketball court, complete with abundant seating, that are bound to enrich our school lives.’”

The project delivered:

  • a multipurpose hall with timber sprung floors and line markings for multiple sports and activities
  • kitchen facilities
  • changing rooms and bathrooms
  • a walkway, covered outdoor learning area (COLA) and landscaping
  • utility upgrades
  •  two sports equipment storage spaces.

Akshita Ghosh (Year 9) highlights the students’ view of the hall’s favourite features, saying: “The fully-furnished gym is complete with pristine bathrooms, an elaborate retractable seating area, ceiling-mounted basketball hoops, and abundant natural lighting, and these unique features make this new learning area extremely enjoyable to be in.”

Students also enjoy a covered outdoor learning area (COLA) wrapping around the hall, where they have outdoor classes and gather during lunch.

Connecting the Community

Melody Paletto (Year 7) sums up the best part of the new hall, saying: “Beyond its impressive features, the true beauty of the gymnasium lies in its capacity to bring our entire school community together under one roof.”

Felix Birke (Year 11) adds: “Our new gymnasium fosters school sport and community opportunities such as knockout matches, assemblies, and celebrations. It greatly expands the united feel of our school as its open design invites everyone in.”

The upgrade to the NBSC Manly Campus provides a place for student athletes to flourish, for students to connect and bring the local community together.
