Australian native plants on display at Nangamay Public School

Release date: 11 May 2023

Over 27,000 Australian native plants were used at Nangamay Public School as part of the building project which was completed earlier this year.

The school was built to cater for population growth in the Mulgoa Rise and Glenmore Park communities. It has capacity for up to 400 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, and features 20 flexible, airconditioned learning spaces, core facilities such as a library, canteen and staff admin space, and a multi-purpose hall as well as sports and play space.

Helping to reinstate native habitat was a major aim of the landscaping for the school. Many plants used were selected from Penrith City Council’s native species list and species found in the Cumberland Plain Shale Woodlands and Shale-Gravel Transition Forest Community.

The school was developed in close consultation with local Aboriginal owners. The feedback from this process also informed the choice of plants, particularly for the yarning circle area of the school.
