Schools non-operational due to severe weather

Release date: 01 April 2021

UPDATED: 9.10AM - Thursday 1 April 2021

We are continuing to monitor the effects of the recent weather event and are working closely with emergency services to ensure our school communities remain safe and fully informed about any disruption to schooling.

An updated list of schools that remain non-operational for Thursday 1 April is available on the School Safety page. With events changing so rapidly, the best way for parents and carers to stay up-to-date is by:

  • visiting their school website or Facebook page
  • visiting the department’s School Safety page or Facebook page
  • downloading the School Updates app for real-time updates on their school’s operating status

A list of non-government schools non-operational is also available on the website to support families.

The conditions have resulted in some schools requiring maintenance and repair.

We are assessing the extent of the damage and where possible, have started the clean-up to ensure that schools can be returned to normal operations as soon as possible. It may take some days to gain access to sites to assess the damage.

Students affected by the flood emergency will be able to learn from home. Learning resources are available from the department’s Learning from Home Hub during this emergency.

Before and after school care will not be available for schools that are not operating. Parents and carers should contact their providers to confirm if they are operating.

Before leaving home, parents and carers should consider their local situation including any existing road closures, transport disruptions and forecast weather conditions.
