Development application lodged for new Armidale Secondary College

Release date: 19 November 2018

A major milestone in the delivery of the new Armidale Secondary College has been achieved, with lodgement of the State Significant Development Application.

The new school is being developed on the current Armidale High School site, consolidating Armidale High School and Duval High School. Catering for approximately 1,500 students, it will include modern facilities in 79 new classrooms, new school buildings, improved performing arts and sports facilities, attractive landscaping and design features that connect indoor and outdoor learning.

Future-focused teaching will include learning neighbourhoods with flexible, adaptable spaces that help students use modern technology, while working independently and in groups.

The new school will also incorporate and preserve the best elements of both schools on the 18-hectare site.  This includes the school farm and the land currently used for agricultural programs.

The redevelopment works are set to begin in early 2019, with completion of the Armidale Secondary College project scheduled to enable students to use the redeveloped site at the beginning of 2021.

The capacity of Duval High School is being increased through the installation of demountables while the redevelopment occurs at Armidale High. All students will relocate to Duval during the 2019 and 2020 school years.

This project is part of the NSW Government’s record $6 billion school building program over the next four years, which will deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities throughout NSW. This is the largest investment into public school infrastructure by any state government in Australian history.
