New language education facility welcomes students

Release date: 07 August 2018

More than 2,000 students and 115 teaching and administration staff  were welcomed to a new fit-for-purpose distance education language facility at the start of Term 3 on 23 July 2018.

NSW School of Languages (formerly Open High School) offers flexible teaching spaces to facilitate face-to-face learning and examinations; new communal spaces including a hall and breakout spaces; state-of-the-art IT and telephony systems; recording studio facilities; video conferencing facilities for remote students; and modern office accommodation.

The school’s use of modern interactive collaborative technologies allows for remote students across NSW to be supported by specialist teachers in their pursuit of languages study.

The new facility is located on West Street, Petersham, in what was a TAFE campus, and allows for projected growth in future enrolments.

The NSW Government is spending $6 billion over four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools. This includes an additional $160 million spend in 2018/19 as part of the record $747 million maintenance investment announced last year.
