First sod turned at Picton High School

Release date: 22 August 2018

Minister Rob Stokes visited Picton High School today to turn the first sod of dirt at the site of the redevelopment of the school.

With the contract for the construction works awarded to Taylor Construction Pty Ltd, who joined Mr Stokes on site, the start of construction was officially given the go-ahead.

The Picton High School project will provide increased permanent facilities to accommodate 1,500 students and includes new classrooms, covered outdoor learning areas, library facilities and special education facilities.  The hall and other buildings will also be refurbished, and safety improvements will be made to the bus and car drop-off area.

To help with a smooth transition, a temporary school will be constructed on another area of the site later this year, which will be ready for students next year. The new Picton High School is expected to open in 2022.

The NSW Government is spending $6 billion over four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools. This includes an additional $160 million spend in 2018/19 as part of the record $747 million maintenance investment announced last year. This is the biggest investment in public school infrastructure in the history of NSW.
