Countdown is on for new Googong primary school

Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro and Minister for Education Rob Stokes visited Googong today to confirm the exciting announcement that a site for a new primary school in Googong has been secured.
Ms Berejiklian, Mr Barilaro and Mr Stokes met with members of the local community as well as some local three and four year olds - the potential future students of Googong Primary - to announce that the new primary school will be located on the corner of Gorman Drive and Wilkins Way.
Ms Berejiklian said the local community can look forward to a new primary school as part of the NSW Liberals & Nationals record investment in public school infrastructure.
“I share the excitement of all those I have spoken to today and I can assure you that this school will have modern facilities that will help students achieve their full potential,” Ms Berejiklian said.
Mr Barilaro said he was thrilled to announce the new primary school earlier this year and very happy to be in Googong today, this time with the Premier and Minister for Education to announce the secured site.
“The people of Googong deserve this, and I am thrilled to be able to announce the site today, so that locals are assured that we mean business,” Mr Barilaro said.
“We will now be engaging with local principals and community representatives to develop the plans for their new school,” Mr Barilaro said.
Mr Stokes said the primary school would be planned to ensure Googong students benefit from the latest in school design, future-focused learning spaces and education technologies.
“This project will help provide the high quality education the children of Googong need to succeed now and into the future,” Mr Stokes said.
Chair of the Googong Township Board, Mr James Service, said the public school is a significant milestone for Googong.
“New communities, that are growing this fast, need infrastructure and we thank the government for its foresight in making this investment. We particularly acknowledge our local Member for Monaro, John Barilaro for taking a strong lead on this issue,” Mr Service said.
“Demand in Googong is unlikely to slow down any time soon. In less than five years, more than 3,500 residents have moved into Googong.
“We expect that population to double again by the time the school opens, with most of these residents being young families who are looking for a choice in education close to home,” he said.
Other school projects in the Monaro electorate include upgrades to Braidwood Central School, Jindabyne Central School, Karabar High School, Monaro High School, Queanbeyan East Public School, and Queanbeyan High School. Work is also underway on Finigan School of Distance Education.
The new primary school in Googong is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s record $6 billion school building program over the next four years, which will deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities throughout NSW. This is the largest investment into public school infrastructure by any state government in Australian history.
