Work underway soon on Merrylands Public School upgrade
Release date: 22 January 2018
Students and teachers at Merrylands Public School will benefit from an exciting upgrade that will provide 10 permanent modern and flexible classrooms funded by the NSW Government.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said tenders have closed for the project which, when opened in late 2019, will see the western Sydney School well positioned for anticipated population growth in the area.
The Merrylands school community will enjoy the addition of new learning spaces and associated amenities in a multi-level design.
A contract will be awarded soon with construction expected to start in early 2018.
Mr Stokes said the successful tenderer will be asked to create flexible classroom spaces that allow teaching and learning to keep pace with modern education trends.
“Our vision is to deliver world-class learning and teaching facilities to support the aspiration of the NSW public education system to be one of the finest in the world,” Mr Stokes said.
“Projects like this one provide our students and staff with the resources they need to succeed in the 21st century,” he said.
Merrylands Public School is one of 13 schools in Sydney’s west and south west scheduled to have upgrade works worth $220 million start in 2018.
The 13 projects are in addition new schools and school upgrades already underway in the region. Since 2011, the NSW Government has committed $1.75 billion for more than 70 new and upgraded school projects in Western Sydney.
The NSW Government is spending $4.2 billion over four years building 120 new or upgraded schools and $747 million on school maintenance. This is the biggest investment in public school infrastructure in the history of NSW.
