Work has begun on the $22.5 million Yandelora School project to cater for students with special needs requiring specialised support in the Camden and Macarthur areas, funded by the NSW Government.

The new school at Narellan will include 16 technology-enabled classrooms with purpose-built amenities, a hydrotherapy pool, multi-purpose spaces for shared learning and special programs and modern administration and staff facilities.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Education Minister Rob Stokes and Member for Camden Chris Patterson today visited the site, one of 13 new schools and major school upgrade projects worth $220 million in western and south western Sydney that are set to get underway in the coming months.

Ms Berejiklian said the Yandelora School project was an example of how the NSW Government’s investment in public school infrastructure is providing the best possible learning facilities to meet the needs of all students.

“Greater Western Sydney is growing and we are investing record amounts to ensure children in these areas have the best quality education possible,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“These projects will expand schools by at least 3500 more student places – while also generating valuable jobs in the construction industry.”

Mr Stokes said the school to be completed by 2019 will deliver the highest quality learning environments to provide a specialised educational setting that caters to students with complex needs.

“This world-class facility will provide a specialised educational environment in which learning support plans and individualised learning programs are collaboratively planned, implemented and monitored.” he said.

Mr Patterson welcomed the latest investment by the NSW Government in meeting the education needs of his growing local community. Other projects already underway in the electorate include the new Oran Park High School and a major upgrade of Oran Park Public School.

“Yandelora School will cater for up to 96 students from across the local community with a range of learning needs and disabilities.” he said.

The NSW Government is spending $4.2 billion over four years building 120 new or upgraded schools and $747 million on school maintenance. This is the biggest investment in public school infrastructure in the history of NSW.
