New Bella Vista primary school approved

Baulkham Hills families will benefit from a new $50 million primary school in Bella Vista that will also feature quality sporting facilities that will be available for community use.

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment has approved the Development Application for the new school to be constructed on Fairway Drive.

The project will deliver 40 state-of-the-art classrooms, a new hall and a covered outdoor learning area. When complete, the new school will have capacity for up to 1,000 students in Kindergarten to Year 6 when it welcomes its first students in 2019.

A synthetic sports pitch and double-court indoor sports hall, shared by the school and the local community, will be built in partnership with Hills Shire Council.

Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott welcomed the approval of the project with construction set to begin in early in the New Year.

“It’s important that as this area grows new high-quality education facilities are provided – and we are doing just that for families in the Hills,” Mr Elliott said.

Education Minister Rob Stokes said it was important to ensure the local community had access to the best possible learning environments for students to thrive at school.

“This project will ensure local students have the school facilities and resources they need to succeed in the 21st century.” Mr Stokes said. “The NSW Government is working hard to provide high-quality education facilities for students and their communities now and into the future.”

The Hills Shire Mayor Michelle Byrne said the shared used sporting facilities will benefit students and the community as a whole.

“With a rapidly growing population, it is increasingly harder to find suitable land for active open space,” Dr Byrne said.

“We need to find ways to get the most out of our community’s assets as much as is possible and Council is pleased to partner with the Department of Education to fund an upgrade of the school’s facilities to make them suitable and accessible to the wider community outside of school hours.”

In addition to this new primary school at Bella Vista, another $30 Million is being invested in the Hills area in major upgrades to Excelsior Public School and North Rocks Public School to provide an additional 29 new classrooms.
