Killara Public School upgrade begins
Release date: 05 December 2017
Students at Killara Public School are set to benefit from brand new learning spaces as part of a $6m upgrade, thanks to the NSW Government.
Work has just begun on a new two-storey block containing eight future-focused learning spaces that will ensure Killara Public School is perfectly placed to meet the needs of future generations of local students.
Education Minister Rob Stokes and Member for Ku-ring-gai Alister Henskens visited the school today to celebrate the start of the construction works with the school community.
“These brand new facilities will feature state-of-the-art adaptable learning spaces designed for emerging teaching methods and technologies to ensure local students have the school facilities and resources they need to succeed in the 21st century” Mr Stokes said.
A fly-through animation, released today, shows how the finished school will look, including its commanding new front entrance.
Mr Henskens said the upgrade of the school was a major investment that would improve the learning and teaching environment for local students.
As well as providing more classrooms to enable the school to provide more places for local students, the upgrade also includes new amenities for students and a brand new multi-purpose sports court. As part of the project three existing demountable classrooms will be removed to make way for the new permanent school building.
“The school community will not only benefit from great new modern classrooms, but a significant added benefit is that the students will soon have access to more playground space once the demountables are removed” Mr Henskens said.
“We have a project that we can all be proud of with a design that has been developed in consultation with representatives of the school community. This collaboration has led to the new building being located to make the best use of space without impacting on the school’s green areas.”
Construction of the classroom building is expected to be complete in April 2018, when works will begin on installation of the new full size multi-purpose sports court.
Mr Stokes said he was delighted to see the NSW Government’s historic education infrastructure spending was making a difference for school communities like Killara.
