Work starts on making Bardia Public a showpiece school

Release date: 23 November 2017

Construction begins this week on a $35 million upgrade of Bardia Public School that will provide state of the art learning facilities and vastly increase the school’s capacity, enabling it to accommodate up to 1,000 local students when it opens in 2019.

Education Minister Rob Stokes welcomed the recent approval of the project by Campbelltown City Council and the Sydney South West Planning Panel, clearing the way for work to now begin.

“Over the next year Bardia will be transformed into a fabulous school with first class facilities able to provide the highest quality teaching and learning,” Mr Stokes.

“Bardia will become a showpiece, 21st Century school in the heart of south western Sydney.”

The new main building will triple the current capacity of Bardia Public School, providing 44 future-focused teaching areas. These spaces will include four special program areas for arts, music and other collaborative learning activities and will be equipped with the latest technology.

In addition to these new learning areas, the project includes an open-learning library, canteen and school hall. There will also be covered outdoor spaces for learning and gathering, a new sports field and games court.

The existing school will remain operational while the new school is being constructed, with the development taking place in stages. There will be a clear separation between school operations and construction areas during all stages of the new project.

Mr Stokes said parents and teachers can be assured that student and staff safety, along with minimal disruption to student learning, will be the highest priority during construction.

The Department of Education has responded to feedback received from Council and the local community during the development application process. The plans for the school have been revised to deliver a better outcome in terms of the management of car parking and local traffic.
