Plans unveiled for Smalls Road Public School

Plans have been unveiled showing how the new Smalls Road Public School will look when it opens its doors to students in 2020.

A Development Application is currently being considered by the Department of Planning and Environment for the new K-6 school to be built on the former Ryde High School site on Smalls Road, Ryde.

The community will soon have the chance to view the plans and provide feedback when the scheme goes on public exhibition later this month.

The plans for the new school feature a three-storey building that will include:

  • 43 classrooms to accommodate up to 1,000 students
  • a hall
  • a library
  • covered outdoor learning areas
  • out of school hours care facilities
  • a canteen
  • administration area
  • multi-purpose sports courts and

A kiss and ride area and 40 car spaces will also be included in the new development to help manage traffic in the local area.

The new school will be able to accommodate up to 1,000 primary school students to help meet growing enrolment demand in the local area.

Member for Ryde Victor Dominello encouraged members of the public to make a submission when the public exhibition of the project begins shortly.

“This is a really exciting day for me to finally be able to share the plans for this exciting new school with our community” he said.

“The new school will help meet the growing enrolment demand in our area, and shows we are providing vital local infrastructure to support Ryde families.

“The new school will showcase the latest innovations in school architecture, providing flexible learning spaces specifically designed to cater for changes in teaching methods and technology.”

Education Minister Rob Stokes said he was delighted to be able to unveil these plans as part of an unprecedented school building program underway across NSW.

“This will be a brand new, state of the art school facility that will provide the best possible opportunities for local students to learn and reach their full potential.”

“The new Smalls Road Public School will ensure students and staff have the best possible resources available to them to succeed in the 21st century,” Mr Stokes said.

Aurora College, which currently operates on the site will be relocated to Mowbray Public School as part of the new development.

Early works are expected to commence in early 2018 with main construction works set to begin in mid-2018.

The NSW Government is making a record investment in school infrastructure across the State, which will see $4.2 billion invested into more than 150 new schools and school upgrade projects over the next four years, delivering 1,500 new classrooms and 32,000 additional student spaces across the State.
