DA lodged for upgrade to Queanbeyan East Public School as local school building boom continues

Release date: 07 November 2017

Queanbeyan East Public School will get 11 new classrooms and upgrades to facilities such as the library and toilets as part of the school’s planned upgrade funded by the NSW Government.

Education Minister Rob Stokes and Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro today announced the lodgement of a Development Application for the construction of major upgrades to the school.

The two welcomed the plans, being delivered as part of a school building blitz across the Monaro, which have been submitted to Queanbeyan–Palerang Regional Council.

The project will see two temporary buildings that previously served as a library, replaced with a new permanent building and innovative multi-purpose spaces for interactive learning activities when it is complete in 2019.

The upgrades will include 11 new classrooms which will replace six demountables, expanding capacity for an additional 115 students. This will take the total capacity of the school up to 320 students to cater for projected enrolment growth in the area.

The project will also upgrade core facilities including library, administration and staff areas and toilets.

“It’s vital our community has the school facilities we need to provide the best education possible for local students, and that’s what we’re seeing here at Queanbeyan East Public School” Mr Barilaro said.

“I’m pleased the NSW Government is investing in local schools across the Monaro and throughout Regional NSW.”

“I am delighted that this wonderful school will be able to expand with the latest modern classrooms and facilities to cater for needs of the growing Queanbeyan area,” Mr Stokes said.

“Projects like this one provide the resources our students and staff need to succeed in the 21st century,” Mr Stokes said.

The upgrade at Queanbeyan East Public School is one of more than 120 school projects funded over the next four years under a $4.2 billion school building program announced as part of the 2017/18 state Budget. This is the biggest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
