More classrooms for popular Lake Cathie Public School

Education Minister Rob Stokes today announced Lake Cathie Public School would receive 17 permanent, future-focused learning spaces to accommodate its growing student numbers.

Mr Stokes visited the school today with Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams to give details of the upgrade expected to be complete in 2020.

“This school opened at the start of 2015 to cater for a vibrant, growing local community,” Mr Stokes said.

“Continued growth means we are now able to plan to remove ten demountable classrooms and build 17 new permanent classrooms to provide future-focused learning spaces. There will also be a new bus bay and school entrance.”

Mrs Williams said the local community and the schools Parents and Citizen’s Group would have input into the development and various stages of the design and construction process.

“I am delighted that this wonderful school will be able to expand with the latest modern classrooms and facilities to cater for needs of the growing Lake Cathie area,” she said.

The school opened with 81 students in 2015 and at the start of this year had 230 students enrolled. Enrolments are expected to continue to grow as more families choose to enroll their students in this great local public school.

The project will add to the existing permanent buildings – the library, hall, canteen, administration, staff facilities and covered outdoor learning area – and the games courts and sports fields.

The Lake Cathie Public School expansion is one of more than 120 new and upgraded school projects funded over the next four years under a $4.2 billion program in the 2017/18 state Budget. This is the biggest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
