Flexible Classrooms the future at new Bellevue Hill Public School
Release date: 23 October 2017
Minister for Education Rob Stokes today praised the new $19.3 million Bellevue Hill Public School as a state of the art educational facility.
Mr Stokes and Member for Vaucluse Gabrielle Upton visited the new school to declare open its 25 new classrooms, a new outdoor teaching area and high quality play space.
“The school now boasts an extraordinary building with a wonderful learning environment,” Mr Stokes said.
The success of the open learning design incorporated into the new school was recognised with the 2017 Secretary’s Award for an Outstanding School Initiative – Developing Teacher Capacity for Open Plan Learning.
“I commend the school for creating new approaches to learning so students will benefit from the new open learning environments,” Mr Stokes said.
Ms Upton said many classrooms included in new schools include moveable walls for greater learning space flexibility and Wi-Fi to incorporate new technologies.
“This will enable teachers to use a variety of teaching methods and emerging technologies in catering for groups and individual students,” Ms Upton said.
The project included construction of a four-story building, a library with practical activity areas, outdoor learning space, a lift and toilets. There was also a new canteen, an extended covered outdoor learning area and refurbishment of existing spaces for administration and reception facilities and new landscaping.
