NSW public schools share their play spaces over the summer holidays

Release date: 19 December 2020

Public schools all across NSW have opened their gates these summer school holidays to allow communities to share and enjoy safe and fun playgrounds, ovals and sports courts.

Welcoming the local community to use school facilities ensures that communities get as much use out of their local public schools as possible.

The Program will be operating in participating schools throughout the school holidays until Friday 22 January 2021, from 8.00am to 5.00pm, including public holidays.

The Share Our Space program is aligning with current health advice over the summer holiday period to protect the safety and wellbeing of visitors.

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said she was very pleased to see so many schools participating in the Share Our Space program and opening their gates and play areas to the community.

“Picking the program back up is a common sense approach and is especially beneficial in the current restricted COVID environment. Staying active and exercising is critical for both our physical wellbeing and mental health.

“This is a great opportunity for families to come to their local school and make use of the quality, green space for physical activities, while practicing physical distancing,” Ms Mitchell said.

Additional signage has been provided to remind visitors to maintain appropriate physical distancing and COVID safe hygiene practices. External cleaning services have also been provided to all participating schools throughout the holidays and at the end of the program.

The NSW Government is investing $7 billion over the next four years, continuing its program to deliver more than 200 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW.  This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

If you do choose to share our space, please spread out in available spaces, observing physical distancing rules, clean your hands and stay home if you are sick.
