Release date: 17 June 2020

Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro visited Braidwood Central School today for a sod turning ceremony to celebrate the school’s major upgrade which will soon get underway.

Mr Barilaro said the major upgrade will greatly benefit the Braidwood community.

Once complete, the project will provide eight new permanent flexible learning spaces as well as the refurbishment and extension of the administration facilities.

“We want our children to have the best education possible, and providing high-quality school facilities is a key part of that,” Mr Barilaro said.

“I’m delighted the NSW Government is delivering on this important project.”

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the NSW Government is prioritising regional public schools and was committed to major upgrades in the Monaro area.

“This project at Braidwood Central School will deliver the high-quality school resources our students and teachers deserve,” Ms Mitchell said.

The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over four years to deliver more than 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on school maintenance over five years, along with a record $500 million for the sustainable Cooler Classrooms program to provide air conditioning to schools. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
