Hard hats, hammers and an additional $449 mil for maintenance

Maintenance works at every school across the state will be accelerated under a $1.3 billion plan announced today.
Schools across the state will receive a share of an additional $449 million dollars to address a backlog of maintenance projects including roofing, painting and carpeting works.
Nimbin Central School and Regentville Public School will each receive an allocation of $300,000, with $200,000 earmarked for Dalmeny Public School in Prestons.
The works are in addition to the more than 2000 new classrooms currently being constructed by School Infrastructure NSW.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said the investment was one step in the NSW Government’s journey to making public education in NSW world-class.
“We’re delivering more than 170 new and upgraded schools across the State and we will ensure that each school provides the world-class facilities that our students and teachers deserve,” Mr Stokes said.
“This investment shows our commitment to maintaining existing schools as well as building new ones.”
The $1.3 billion plan aims to clear every maintenance job that is currently outstanding across the state’s 2,200 public schools by July 2020.
During the summer school holidays, works were undertaken at schools across the state as part of a $57 million maintenance blitz. These projects included restoration and painting at Sydney Boys High, and roofing works at Sans Souci and Loftus public schools.
