Planning begins for new Rydalmere Education Precinct

Release date: 31 October 2018

Plans are now underway for a new purpose-built Kindergarten to Year 12 school in Rydalmere, on the site of the former Macquarie Boys’ Technology High School.

Education Minister Rob Stokes today announced that planning will begin to deliver a new Rydalmere Education Precinct which will house both a primary and secondary school.

The new precinct will be developed on Government owned land on the site of the former Macquarie Boys High School, a school closed by the Labor Government in 2008.

With several school building projects already underway in Parramatta, Mr Stokes said the need to establish another new K-12 school is testament to Parramatta’s increasing significance as the new population centre of Sydney.

“Parramatta has enjoyed a renaissance over the past five years thanks to its incredible community and the investment that has been made by the NSW Government.”

“We will continue to deliver world-class infrastructure for families in the area,” Mr Stokes said.

Member for Parramatta Dr Geoff Lee welcomed the news, citing it as proof that only the NSW Liberals & Nationals can deliver for Western Sydney.

“The previous Labor Government shut Macquarie Boys High, selling out the people of Parramatta and writing off the city’s future. Today’s announcement yet again demonstrates that only the NSW Liberals & Nationals believe in Western Sydney,” Dr Lee said.

This project is in addition to the NSW Government’s record $6 billion school building program over the next four years which will deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities throughout NSW. This is the largest investment into public school infrastructure by any state government in Australian history.
